An outpatient rehab is a preliminary recovery option for people who are addicted to drugs but don’t feel the need to check themselves into an inpatient or residential rehab center. Outpatient rehabs allow more flexibility in scheduling, location, and treatment options than inpatient and residential rehabs.
Regardless, both outpatient and inpatient rehabs have one purpose: to help people with substance abuse problems with recovering from their addictions. Outpatient rehabs are able to help people with various addictions.
Outpatient rehab is not as intensive and demanding as inpatient rehab - if only because an outpatient rehab doesn’t demand that you be present for 24 hour care. An inpatient rehab requires you submit to the program and stay until you’ve recovered from the most severe effects of addiction. Outpatient rehabs allow for you to return home, see friends and family, and are generally more lenient than inpatient rehabs.
This said, outpatient rehabs will naturally have a higher chance of failure. Being able to freely walk the world outside of rehab allows a patient to be more likely to relapse. If they don’t adhere to strict rules about who they interact with and the situations they encounter, they could fall back into the same patterns of addiction.
Outpatient rehab is much less restrictive than inpatient rehab. Outpatient rehabs are more likely to be treating mild to moderate substance abuse problems before they have the chance to develop into a more serious problem.
For those who are experiencing mild withdrawal symptoms, they may find the environment and support available at the outpatient rehab enough to help them cope with the discomfort. They will be evaluated on a number of things.
For the duration of the treatment, patients will be allowed to go to and from the treatment center. The only time they must be there is during scheduled meetings and for checkups, at which time they will be monitored to ensure that they don’t bring any harm to themselves.
Typically, patients enjoy a number of things that outpatient rehab offers that they won’t find in inpatient or residential rehabs.
You should figure out whether the programs you’re looking at fulfill the requirements you need for your own personal detox.
